Trip Details
SALINERAS DE MARAS – MORAY – CHINCHERO – TEXTILE WEAVING COMMUNITY
Salineras de Maras: Begin at the salt mines of Maras, where thousands of terraced salt pools cascade down the mountainside in a dazzling patchwork of whites and pinks. Fed by a natural underground saltwater spring, these mines have been harvested since Inca times and remain active today. The views are extraordinary.
Moray: Continue to the mysterious circular Inca terraces of Moray, one of the most visually striking and intellectually fascinating archaeological sites in the Sacred Valley. Believed to have functioned as an agricultural research center, the concentric rings descend deep into the earth and create a series of distinct microclimates. Your guide will bring the history and science behind this extraordinary place to life.
Lunch: Head to the highland town of Chinchero for an included lunch, with sweeping views of the Sacred Valley and the snow-capped peaks of the Andes all around you.
Chinchero Ruins: After lunch, explore the Inca ruins and colonial church perched above the valley – a fascinating site where pre-Columbian stonework and 17th-century Spanish architecture exist side by side.
Textile Weaving Community: Conclude your day with a visit to a local weaving community, where artisans demonstrate the ancient process of natural dyeing and hand-weaving using techniques passed down through generations. Browse their beautiful handmade pieces and take a little piece of the Sacred Valley home with you.
